About This Program
Through MI-Impact Herbs in the Burbs program, accepted participants will receive a free beginner herb growing kit with supplies and materials to grow your own herbs. Your kit will include:
- Indoor culinary herb starter kit (seeds, pots, dirt, shears)
- Herb growing and preservation book
- Sustainable watering can
- Grow light (requires electricity)
- Tool set
Youth will follow provided project instructions and learn at their own pace. This program is provided at no cost to admitted youth. Please review application and requirements in full before applying. Start your gardening journey today and discover your green thumb!
Who Can Apply?
Applicants Must:
- Be a Michigan Resident living in one of the following cities: Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Dearborn, Clinton Township (Macomb), Canton Township, Macomb, Livonia, Troy, Westland, Farmington Hills, Shelby Township, Flint, Wyoming, Rochester Hills, Southfield, Kalamazoo.
- Be Between the Ages of 8-24
- Have a parent or guardian complete the application.
Priority consideration may be given to families with modest annual income.
What You’ll Need to Apply
Before you begin have the following ready:
- Parent/Guardian ready to complete the application (if under 18)
- Photo of Michigan State ID
- Youth Report Card or Alternate Supporting Document (see FAQ for options)
